Craig Smith enters his fourth season with the N.C. Wesleyan football program and will serve as Special Teams Coordinator while coaching wide receivers. In 2016, his first season working with Bishop receivers, he helped guide Wesleyan standout Malik Adams to All-American and USA South Offensive Player of the Year honors after leading the nation with 19 touchdown receptions.
Smith joined the Battling Bishops after a two-year stint at former USA South rival Christopher Newport University, where he played a vital role in the Captains' 2014 USA South title. Prior to CNU, he served three seasons as an assistant coach at Bluffton University and two years in a similar capacity at John Carroll University, both in Ohio. His additional coaching experience includes numerous coaching fellowships at various collegiate camps, including those at Notre Dame and Michigan, among others.
Smith enjoyed stellar collegiate career as a middle linebacker at Bridgewater College. A two-year captain and All-Conference performer, he helped guide the Eagles to four consecutive ODAC Conference Championships and NCAA Playoff berths from 2002 to 2005. He graduated from Bridgewater in 2006 with a degree in Health & Exercise Science. He resides in Rocky Mount.
